⸺ Sports Medicine Unit · Barcelona
Sports medicine tailored to you.
For every athlete. For every team.
A unified method tailored to the professional athlete—both through individual monitoring and by supporting the medical and technical team backing them.
Performance. Prevention. Athletic longevity.
— 01
Better performance
We identify the actual margins for improvement: VO₂ max, thresholds, rest, hormonal profile, and recovery. Every finding translates into something measurable.
— 02
Fewer injuries
An injury is rarely an accident; it is an unread warning. We identify imbalances—biomechanical, metabolic, and load-related—before a breakdown occurs.
— 03
More years of career longevity
More seasons competing at the top. And, upon bringing the professional chapter to a close, the health to enjoy what comes next.
Eight specialists. One unified plan.
Each sports physician at Monarka Clinic Barcelona brings a distinct specialization—and all work on the same athlete, within the same clinical window, with a single exit plan.

The Monarka 360º Approach
Eight specialists who work together.
In most centers, each specialist works in their own consulting room. At Monarka, the eight specialists evaluate the athlete in parallel and meet in a joint clinical session—to emerge with a single plan, not eight.
⸺ Tests and treatments
Precision sports medicine: diagnosis, interventional procedures, and advanced therapeutics.
From the initial sports medical examination to ultrasound-guided interventions and regenerative medicine—every test and treatment is designed for the elite professional athlete.
Cardiovascular Diagnosis
Exercise stress test with gas analysis (VO₂ max)
Direct ergometry with expired gas analysis: VO₂ max, ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2), continuous exercise ECG, and individualized training zones based on intensity.
The stress test for professional athletes at Monarka goes beyond the standard protocol. We evaluate the actual cardiovascular response under progressive load—detecting patterns that emerge only during maximum exertion—and cross-reference these results with the athlete’s metabolic, hormonal, and recovery profile. The result is not merely a report; it is an individualized training roadmap for the season.
Metabolic Diagnosis
Metabolism at exercise and rest
Indirect calorimetry at rest (basal energy expenditure) and during exertion (fat vs. carbohydrate oxidation by intensity zone). Defines the nutritional plan and the optimal metabolic zone for training and competition.
Diagnostic Imaging
High-resolution musculoskeletal ultrasound
Ultrasound diagnosis of muscular, tendinous, and articular lesions. Also serves as a precise guide for ultrasound-guided interventions.
Precision Medicine
Genetic analysis applied to sport
Athlete’s genetic profile: dominant muscle fiber type, predisposition to tendon and ligament injuries, recovery capacity, response to strength and endurance training, and macronutrient metabolism. True personalization of the plan.
Interventionism
Ultrasound-guided injections
Intra-articular hyaluronic acid, corticosteroids for tendinopathy, selective blocks, and prolotherapy under ultrasound guidance.
Regenerative Medicine
PRP and growth factors
Ultrasound-guided autologous platelet-rich plasma and growth factor concentrates (CGF, platelet-rich fibrin). They accelerate tissue regeneration in muscle injuries, tendinopathies, and degenerative processes.
Pain Management
Interventional treatment of sports-related pain
Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, radiofrequency, and neuromodulation. When necessary, minimally invasive surgery.
Readaptation
Advanced physiotherapy and functional rehabilitation
Manual therapy, osteopathy, biomechanical analysis, and return-to-play program based on objective criteria.
Biochemical Diagnosis
Biomarkers and hormonal profiling
Markers of inflammation, oxidative stress, hormonal profile, micronutrients, and mitochondrial function. Re-evaluation throughout the season.
Chronobiology
Sleep assessment applied to performance
Polysomnography and actigraphy. Jet lag management, chronobiological adjustment for competition, and optimization of nocturnal recovery.
⸺ How We Work
A clinical process in four phases.
Phase 01
Clinical Interview
Sports medical history, competition schedule, career objectives, and the athlete’s current technical environment.
Phase 02
Parallel Multidisciplinary Assessment
The athlete is evaluated by the eight specialists within a single, efficient clinical window.
Phase 03
Clinical Session and Unified Plan
The team meets to integrate all findings into a single personalized plan, prioritized by impact.
Phase 04
Longitudinal follow-up
Assessments tailored to the competitive calendar, coordinated with the athlete’s medical and technical staff.
